"Path of Glory" - Stanley Kubrick
This is sequence of the movie "Path of Glory" where a german lady sing a military song to a french soldiers. Der Treue Husar (The brave Husar) is a german military song.
Spielberg mentioned in his interview on Kubrick that on the day Kubrick passed away, Spielberg showed this scene to his friends in a gathering in memory of Kubrick. It left them in tears.

Damn nice korean soldier movie !
Silmido is a 2003 South Korean film, directed by Kang Woo-suk. It is loosely based on a military uprising from the island of Silmido in the 1970s. At the end of its run, the film was the most watched film ever in South Korea, and the first film to attract an audience of 10 million viewers in the country. Taegukgi later broke its record in 2004, and then The King and the Clown with additional 2 million in 2006.
Silmido is based on a true story of events happening from 1968 to 1971, although the details surrounding the event did not go public until 1999. When a group of North Korean commandos infiltrate the South to assassinate then Korean president Park Jung-Hee, the South Korean and US military barely intercept the would-be assassins before their mission is completed. As the North-South tensions reach their breaking point, the South decides to secretly train its own Special Forces codenamed Unit 684, to exact revenge and kill North Korea’s premier, Kim-Il Sung. Thus the story of Silmido Island and Unit 684 begins.

An attempted assassination failed and forces the chief to investigate. Every leader tries to account for their actions but it is revealed that everything was a set up. The assassination is a russ to round out potential defectors.

(My Old Works) Temasek Final Year Project
Synopsis
Story starts with a wallet stolen three years ago and main protagonist “Ah Guan” going to retrieve it. Although he took back what he wanted he also took something important away from this robber and punished him. Ah Guan works as a runner for loan sharks however, 3 years later he settled down with a brand new start and started a family with an unborn child. A bright new future is ahead of Ah Guan but everyone has to be responsible for what they did in the past and be prepared to face the consequences that come in the future. One day, the robber who was punished by Ah Guan 3 years ago has his vengeances. Ah Guan was later killed and the story reveals that it’s the wallet that led him to meet his current wife.

SG films standards
One day i was viewing you tube on Singapore short films. Also, i was looking at short films from other countries through vimeo.

To be honest, i felt there is a gap in standards between Singapore short film and other countries. It could be due to that Singapore is a very young modern countries and has little history.
I remember when i was studying film, it was Roytan's short film that inspired me to tell story through motion pictures. I think i watched most of all his shorts and features except 12 lotus.
I feel that younger generation's films lack of individual style.
As i am working on my own too.
Recently i had a discussion with a few passionate film-making friends. We shared views and concluded these:
In Singapore as long as you are rich, you have contacts and investors, you can make your first feature with little film background or none. Some were even from other occupations.
Although money $$$ can buy you knowledge & experience, i believe that one should develop their unique style and trademark and NOT mimicking and be common or normal.
Yes i agree at a point that money is important to make a film possible but with little life experience, i don't think it is possible to fully maximize and execute in telling a in depth life story that involve emotions especially at a young age.
Therefore i feel that young directors can only do certain genre of film.
I also believe a style can only be develop through time and practice(keep making films).
I do not wish that in years to come, the mindset of Singapore film-making is about trying to make films for the sake of making film so commercially.
On general i am talking not only about shorts but features as well.
